In the city of Roost, an unknown enemy is corrupting its Glow citizens. Glow eyes and plumage are turning a sickening colour as they head for the skies to fulfil a dark bidding to spread Disbelief throughout the floating Nests.
The Glow are one of the kingdom's eight ruling fae known to us humans as Friends. Usually such peace-loving folk, recently they have undergone changes, their eyes and feathers discolouring and their behaviour becoming erratic. Many are now heading skywards and teaming with greedy wyrms to steal and hoard sacred Nimbus eggs... But why?
This is where you come in!
Playing the descendents of legendary rulers Arthur and Guinevere, as a Pendragon you have been tasked with investigating this mystery and bringing an end to the corruption of the Glow. Where INSPIRISLES had you collecting Belief to heal the World Tree, this time around you must prevent the Nests from sinking by protecting the Nimbus eggs and halting the spread of Disbelief, our world's negative energy.
The Nests are an archipelago of islands floating high above the fae kingdom. Each island is home to communities of Glow and the sacred Nimbus, a type of bird thought to bring luck and prosperity to all. With the emergence of corrupted Glow and thieving wyrms, the Nimbus mother has been driven from her Nest, leaving only her fledglings to protect the precious eggs.
INSPIRISLES established Shaping, a technique used to wield the four elements. It is also our foundation for sign language. With the original game, we took you from the basics of fingerspelling the alphabet right through to beginner conversations.
With OVERISLES, we are expanding your learning even further. In order to travel between the scattered Nests and tackle Disbelief, you must learn to ride fledgling Nimbus. You will need to build trust with these beautiful creatures and this can only be achieved through Feathering, a technique not dissimilar to horse whispering but expressed through gestures instead of words.
Where Shaping is taught by the wyrms, Feathering is practiced exclusively by Silver Apples. These seasoned Pendragons entered a knightly order after fulfilling their pact and now protect the kingdom from the threat of Disbelief.
OVERISLES uses a rules light system based on rolling three 6 sided dice (3d6). We have two tests, both of which increase in challenge as Pendragons advance:
- A Belief Barrier is a cooperative test where you wield the elements to overcome obstacles. With this challenge, a roll of 11 or more is a pass and + modifiers are added with assistance from your companions and the items you carry.
- A Disbelief Battle is a combative test where your elements provide rerolls depending on their dominance. For instance, fire Shapers have an advantage over earth.
Succeeding at these tests earns Belief and failing lands you Disbelief, which can have dire consequences. A combination of Barriers and Battles form a typical Questing Day. Using traditional storytelling archetypes, these adventures are created by your Grail Guide, our version of a GM.
The 2nd half of the game will cover the archipelago of Nests you'll explore. The Nest pages will include a hex tile, a section of lore, 3 scenarios, random rolling tables and illustrations of characters/creatures inhabiting the islands.
Our sign language material is consulted on by qualified Deaf tutors. None of the content is written from the Deaf perspective (as the designer is hearing).
To ensure you are learning sign language correctly, all material is complemented by video tutorials. These professional clips are produced by our Deaf colleagues Rajnie Kaur (she/her) and Katy White (she/her) and both the PDF and physical editions of our games provide full access.
Over the years, we have built a wonderful following through social media and are humbled to collaborate with such diverse and respected creatives. With OVERISLES, we are welcoming more Deaf and Hard of Hearing professionals to Hatchlings Games.

Absolutely in love with this game! Genuinely love how well this was made!
As a HH semi-fluent signer and intercultural communications and conflict mediation major I'm ABSOLUTELY thrilled. As a Disabled Queer I think how the game was designed is fun, interesting, and approachable/accessible!
Nothing excites me more than a fantastic game and OverIsles absolutely delivers.
Are there means to translate the content for other kinds of sign language?
We're looking into this right now, However, to maintain the quality and accessibility publishers overseas will need to take more steps than is typical for translations. We won't make deals unless they are willing to uphold certain requirements.
Very keen on a NZSL version. If there is anyway I can help with that, let me know.
How is this game different from Inspirisles?
It’s a sequel with new lore, mechanics and further sign language learning.
